The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is planning of holding of the exhibition «Sultan Baybars and his Era» arranged to the International specialized exposition «EXPO-2017» in Astana from June 10, to August 10.
The exhibition is aimed at making acquainted museum visitors with life and history of reign of the Mamluk sultan of Egypt and Syria Sultan Baybars.
According to the generally accepted version of information, Sultan Baybars was born in Desht-i-Kypchak (Polovtsy Steppe) to the north from the Black sea (1223 or 1225 – 1277).
The Egyptian historian of the 14th century Al-A’yni wrote in his work «Ikdu al-dzhuman fi-t-tarih ahl al-azman» that Baybars ibn Abdulla was Kypchak by origin. And according to An-Nuvayri, Baybars was a Turk and came from Kypchak tribe Elborili.
Baybars had been on throne for 17 years (from 1260 to 1277). Egypt became a potent power during his reign period. There were constructed channels and shipbuilding yards, military fortifications on the borders of the country, palaces, and mosques in Cairo, and were developed crafts, agriculture, science, trade and art.
Sultan Baybars is famous for his successful wars in Palestine and Syria against the Mongolian Ilkhans of Iran and the European Crusaders. Baybars was an outstanding commander of the East that got a nick-name as Abu-l-Futuh, i.e. «Father of the Victory».
On the exposition will be presented objects from the collection of the Museum of Islamic Art (Cairo, Egypt) that will promote information on life and history of reign of Sultan Baybars.
